“As a woman who has been street homeless for over 3 months, I have needed the help and support from the WSUP workers and facilities. Hot showers and clean clothing has been my priority, it helps me feel nice and respectable. There is never any judgement and the volunteers are willing to go the extra mile. They have great understanding of what homeless women need.”
“When my relationship ended I had to move out of my home and I had nowhere to go. I slept rough on the streets for over a year. Homelessness is not a choice… I had noone to talk to. I had nowehere to take a shower, nowhere for private hygiene moments. The privilege to be to relieve yourself is not there. Privacy is not there. The mental side of it starts to take a toll. You start to think ‘What have I dont to deserve this?’”
“The mental part becomes really bad – the hunger, the depression, the fatigue. You can’t sleep. It goes on and on until you realise that you almost want to give up on life itself and being a bother to people.”
About the Appeal
This winter, Woolwich Service Users Project is rallying our commuity to stand together in compassion and solidarity, supporting those facing hardship, poverty and homelesness through the coldest months of the year.
At present, we have 811 guests registered with WSUP, including 271 people who are street homeless. The majority of those experiencing homelessness need additional support, including mental health, drug, and alcohol services. At WSUP, we believe that ever person deserves dignity, warmth, and care. Our drop-in centre in Woolwich provides hot meals, showers, haircuts, clean clothing and a safe place to rest, alongside wellbeing sessions and practical guidance on housing, healthcare, employment and mental health.
About WSUP
Our Mission
WSUP is a safe, inclusive space for guests facing hardship and housing instability to drop-in. We provide hot meals, showers and haircuts, as well as a clothing bank and laundry service. But we are more than a drop-in service; through strong partnerships with healthcare providers, outreach teams, drug and alcohol services, housing organisations and peer networks, we enable people to improve their health, rebuild relationships and move towards stability.
Our Vision
A community free from hardship and housing instability.
